Het is een fiscaal nummer dat eenmalig wordt toegekend en levenslang geldig blijft. Een grensganger, iemand die in Nederland woont en in Duitsland werkt, kan dit fiscale kenmerk niet krijgen. Via het Steuer-ID weet een Duitse werkgever in welk belastingtarief (Steuerklasse I-VI) over uw inkomen afgedragen moet worden. De grensganger moet <span class=\"text_exposed_hide\">&#8230;<\/span><span class=\"text_exposed_show\">voor het vaststellen van de Steuerklasse het formulier Antrag auf Erteilung einer Bescheinigung f\u00fcr den Lohnsteuerabzug 20XX (google: bfinv lohnsteuerabzug) invullen en afgeven bij de Duitse werkgever.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"text_exposed_show\"> Om in Duitsland te werken!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text_exposed_show\"> Een grensganger kan het beste kiezen voor indeling in Steuerklasse I, zonder gebruik te maken van aftrekposten (Freibetr\u00e4ge). Daardoor is de grensganger niet verplicht een aangifte inkomstenbelasting in te vullen en loopt hij niet het risico achteraf belasting te moeten betalen.
