For many cross-border workers, the most important deadlines for filing Belgian tax returns are approaching in the coming weeks. Both Belgian residents with foreign income and non-residents who work in Belgium should be aware of the specific filing deadlines that apply to them.
31 October: Deadline for Tax Returns with Specific Types of Income
Taxpayers residing in Belgium who need to declare certain specific types of income have until 31 October 2026 to submit their tax return online via MyMinfin.
This extended deadline applies, among others, to individuals with:
- Foreign employment income;
- Self-employment income;
- A foreign loan;
- Foreign real estate being declared for the first time;
- Maintenance payments received from or paid to a person abroad.
For outbound cross-border workers who live in Belgium and receive income from the Netherlands or Germany, this deadline is particularly relevant, as foreign employment income is explicitly included among the categories eligible for the extended filing period.
More information is available on the website of the Belgian Federal Public Service Finance (FPS Finance).
20 November: Deadline for the Non-Resident Tax Return
Individuals who do not reside in Belgium but receive taxable income there are required to file a Non-Resident Income Tax Return. The filing deadline for this return is 20 November 2026.
This tax return is not only relevant for inbound cross-border workers who live in, for example, the Netherlands or Germany and work in Belgium. Other foreign workers, such as seasonal workers, posted workers, and labour migrants who have worked temporarily in Belgium, may also receive an invitation to submit a non-resident tax return.
In principle, the FPS Finance will begin sending invitations from September onwards. Anyone who has received Belgian employment income should verify whether they are required to file a return.

Cross-border workers with questions about their tax situation can also contact a Cross-Border Information Point in their region for free, personalised advice on living and working across borders.
Tip: Don’t wait until the last few days before the deadline. Especially when foreign income or complex cross-border situations are involved, gathering all the required documents and completing the tax return correctly can take time.
