CBS has published new figures on the number of cross-border workers from Belgium and Germany working in the Netherlands.
In 2023, nearly 89,000 people living across the border worked in the Netherlands: 44,000 from Belgium and 45,000 from Germany. That is 2,000 more than a year earlier. Of these so-called cross-border commuters, more than 6 in 10 worked in Limburg or Brabant.
Over the past ten years, cross-border commuting from Germany and Belgium has increased. In 2013, 39,000 people commuted from Belgium and 41,000 from Germany. This represents an increase of more than 11%. (Source: CBS border data)
