The health insurance supplement (zorgtoeslag) is a financial subsidy from the Dutch government to ensure the affordability of health insurance. However, there are some conditions that you have to fulfil to get the health insurance supplement:
- You are 18 years or older
- Your income is not too high
In 2021 your income must not exceed € 31,998 per year. If you have a partner, your joint income must not be more than € 40,944 per year. - Your assets must not be too high
On 1 January 2020, you must not have assets totalling more than € 120,020. If you have a partner, your assets must not exceed € 151,767.
How much health insurance supplement can you get?
The health insurance supplement depends on your income. The higher the income, the lower the health supplement. You can do a trial calculation at www.toeslagen.nl. Example: if your gross annual salary in the Netherlands is € 26,000 and you do not have a partner, your health insurance supplement will be € 60 per month in 2021.
How do I apply for the health insurance supplement?
If you have a DigiD, you can apply for the health insurance supplement at www.toeslagen.nl. If you do not have a DigiD, you can apply for it at the tax office in Heerlen by calling +31 55 538 53 85. Please have your Citizen Service Number (BSN) ready. The forms will be sent to the address known to the tax authorities.
